Today on St. Patrick’s Day, it only seems right to discuss some of the funniest teens in Northern Ireland. This Irish comedy offers a good look into a piece of the country’s history, as it follows five teens growing up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles; a time of political and social unrest in the 90’s. The show’s description explains that “Derry Girls’ is a reminder that the teenagers of Northern Ireland dealt with the same growing pains as the rest of the world.” Rotten Tomatoes gave the first season a 100% fresh rating. You can find the critically acclaimed comedy on Netflix in The US., but you can find Derry Girls’ cracker fans on social media.
Yes, you read that correctly; I did say ‘cracker’.. apparently, the Derry translation of cracker is ‘brilliant. The show uses quite a bit of Northern Irish slang. I turned to social media to translate a few Derry sayings and there I found some active Derry Girls’ fans.
